00000008.@, services.exe, and desktop.ini infections

I’ve ran Avast! And MBAM before coming here with no success. I’ve tried running OTL multiple times, but each time it would crash when scanning Chrome settings, so unfortunately do not have any logs for that. I’ve included the other two requested logs below though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried running OTL in safe mode ?

OBS…and that log must be attached…not copy and paste

Looking at that you have the double whammy… I will go direct to the fix… But once complete could you try OTL again

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

[*]Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSFront.JPG

[*]Then click on Change parameters.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSConfig.JPG

[*]Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.

[*]Click the Start Scan button.

[*]If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSFound.JPG

[*]If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
[*]Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

[*]Get the report by selecting Reports

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/TDSSEnd.JPG

[*]Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.

Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_disclaimer_ENG.png

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

I’ve re-ran MBAM and got a fresh log, attached, not copy and pasted here for you. Then ran TDSSkiller, log also attached. After it restarted I ran ComboFix, which seemed to finish successfully, but did not produce a log. I’ve checked C:/ directly for it, which is where I found the TDSSkiller log, as well as C:/Combofix, which did not contain any txt files or anything else that looked like a log. Tried running OTL in safe mode with no luck, but instead of freezing on Chrome Settings as it was previously, it would crash and give me a blank black screen (whole screen, not just the window) once it got to Chrome Settings forcing me to restart the computer manually with the power button. Same problems as before, periodically it will de-select whatever window I’m in. In this instance it’s just causing me to have to re-click to begin typing again, but when a fullscreen application is running it will either show the desktop (for games for instance) or will revert to window mode (for movies [vlc] for instance)

OK one of the bad boys is dead so lets see what remains

[*] Download RogueKiller and save it on your desktop.
[*]Quit all programs
[*] Start RogueKiller.exe.
[*] Wait until Prescan has finished …
[*] Click on Scan

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RogueKiller/RGKRScan.png

[*]Wait for the end of the scan.
[*] The report has been created on the desktop.
[*] Click on the Delete button.

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RogueKiller/RGKRDelete.png

[*]The report has been created on the desktop.

[*]Next click on the ShortcutsFix

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RogueKiller/RGKRShortcutsFix.png

[*]The report has been created on the desktop.

Please post: All RKreport.txt text files located on your desktop.

I’ve ran RK, Requested logs are included. The program also created a folder on my desktop “RK Quarantine” I’ve included a screenshot of what’s included in that folder.

Could you reboot your computer and press F8 immediately and hold
When the safe mode menu appears do you have the option for “Repair my Computer”

If not do you have a USB drive of 4Gb and access to another computer to download programmes onto

Last time I’ve restarted with F8 there was an option for “Repair my Computer”. I’m assuming that’s the next step, going ahead and doing that now. I’ll report back with any new information.

OK I will prepare the next stage whilst you are doing that… Your USB will not need to be so big now

[*]Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Reboot to the safe mode menu

Click repair my computer

Select your operating system

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RepairVista_7277202.jpg

Select Command prompt

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RepairVista_7277.jpg

Insert the Flash drive

At the command prompt type the following :

notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select “Computer” and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive.

THEN

Still within FRST
Type the following into the search box

services.exe

Then click search
A log search.txt will be located on the flash drive

Please copy and paste both logs in your next reply.

I don’t currently have access to a jump drive. I tried using my phone but it wouldn’t load it as a drive in repair mode. I’ll get back to you when I have access to a jump drive.

OK no problem, I am going off line soon anyway ;D

FRST64.exe ran in repair mode, requested files are attached.

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB drive as FRST
Restart the computer as before to the recovery console
Run FRST and click Fix

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Farbar/FRST2.gif

A log will be generated on the USB drive

Reboot to normal windows

Once there then please run combofix and post the logs along with the FRST fix log

OK, ran both of them, files are attached. Just wanted to say thanks for all the help so far, I really do appreciate it.

Big question time… How is the computer behaving now ?

run farbar service scanner

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/FSS.GIF

Tick “All” options.
Press “Scan”.
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Seems to be running fine now. I haven’t had any issues with the windows deselecting. I’ve played a video for a few moments with no problem, when it was regularly going from fullscreen to windowed mode before hand. Sometime yesterday I was having trouble with streaming videos (no audio at all on firefox or chrome, firefox would play the video at least, chrome would have it freeze every 8-12 seconds) and that’s working just fine now. As far as I can tell it seems fixed.

OK one item to repair, but I shall do that as I remove the tools

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Files ipconfig /flushdns /c sc create BITS binpath= "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" start= delayed-auto /c

:Commands
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix

[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall (Notice the space between the “x” and “/”) then click OK

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Go to control panel
[*]Select folder options (Appearance > Folder options in category view)
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.
