I dont use my own computer much now. Just a habit since all the crap I had a month or so back but since I put Zonealarm on there and Avast as a backup scanner The first virus I got appeared to be nothing
It found it under AIM instant messanger files but I deleted it and since I dont really use AIM I uninstalled after checking 2 scans with nothing discovered.
I keep up with the security updates for windows and apart from a few older games XP doesn’t like I haven’t had any probs. The same with Malware/Spyware.
I am working with computers for over 24 1/2 years and never had malware on my system, unless I had put it there myself to let people see what can happen en how to deal with it. Is this luck? Perhaps.
Most important thing with security and computers is never to rely on luck. Read security websites/magazines and such and learn how to secure a system.
Having a firewall and av software is a good thing. But many people make the mistake to think they are safe with them. You must also configure them properly.
I can’t tell if you where lucky or not, but like I said. Don’t rely on luck
There isn’t one, I apply this to all emails and programmes.
Emails are easy, no html ones, no attachments etc.
Programmes are a lot more difficult, although some research about them will help first. I did my research before installing avast! and haven’t had any problems. Likewise with outpost firewall (amongst others I’ve tried)
I treat all programmes with the same attitude I use for salesmen knocking my door, “thanks very much, I’ll do some thinking and call your head office”
