Correct, Avast mail scanner is working transparantly on NT based systems, not on 9x/me.

I have an idea, but I can’t promise it will work.

  • Create a backup of Avast4.ini

  • Than change the mail section part in avast4.ini so that these settings are there:
    [MailScanner]
    Log=20
    DefaultPopServer=
    DefaultSmtpServer=
    ShowTrayIcon=1
    UseDefaultSmtp=0
    AutoSetProtection=0
    PopListen=
    SmtpListen=
    ImapListen=

  • Setup the mail as if Avast isn’t there.

  • Check if the mail is working

  • Run the mail protection wizzard (close the email client first ofcourse)

  • Check the mail again.

Does this solves the problem?
If not, put back the copy of Avast4.ini

The line Log=20 enables extended logging of what is going on and may tell us more if the mail scanning still isn’t working.
