Hello,
I have ran my avast program and moved 141 infections to the chest as advised. What do I do next. Does this mean everything is ok or do I need to take more steps. I am overwhelmed at this and don’t know what I am supposed to do. Thank you for an help.
Hi treismom12,
Be sure to try a boot time scan with avast! Right click the scanner screen, select ‘schedule a boot time scan’ and reboot when requested.
If you would like us to check that your computer is clean, post a HijackThis! log.
I suggest:
- Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
- Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
Thank your for your responses. I think I did the procedure for the boot time scan. I am not sure if I did it correctly or not. It did a check with a blue screen and found one error. I asked it to move it to the chest. Could you please look at my file. Thank you so much for your help.
If I need to do all the other things listed by the second person I will need some help. I don’t even know how to disable my system restore. ???

WinAntivirusPro is a scam product. (Useless at best.)
Run the following to remove:
I have gone to the rogue remover before and ended up downloading the registry booster. Is this the correct tool? I have run it and removed all that it showed.
On the SmitFraudFix: what am I supposed to select: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5?
Thanks

Huh? Here’s a direct link:

Clean:* Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually) * Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe * Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files. * You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. * The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file. * A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt</blockquote>
ok, I was able to do those two things.
Am I supposed to show you the file? from the SmithfraudFix?
That would be good. I’m just hoping that one of them has removed WinAntivirusPro.
Just to be clear, that program is worthless, fake, deceptive, a scam, a fraud, dishonest, bogus, malodorous and generally not something you’d want on your PC.
Yes, I did find that out the hard way. That is what got me started trying to clean this computer up in the begining. It was a big mess.
So, how do I tell if I am all in the clear? My computer is still running a little slow but other than that it seems ok to me.
You could post a fresh HijackThis! log just to make sure WinAntivirusPro has gone.
Apart from that, if you want to double-check, try a few online scans, maybe:
F-Secure
BitDefender
Trend Micro Housecall
ESET Online Scanner
ok, I will check those programs too. thank you so much for your help!!
Should I leave all those virus’s in my chest or should I remove them?
Always best to leave them in the chest: there’s always a small chance that any anti-virus or anti-spyware product will wrongly identify a legitimate file as a virus/spyware file. If you put it in the chest (aka quarantine) there’s always the chance to replace it later if the identification proved to be wrong.
ok. Thank you again for your help
No worries.
