2/2018 Security Update causing problems

I updated my Avast Premiere, from the update box that Avast put out. I did that last night and now I am having problems with the program. I am unable to do a Smart Scan, I get a box that tells me that if I am the one who asked for it and I have to put in my password.

So, I put in my password and I get an error, stating that my password is wrong. I tried many times, I went to the Avast website and my password went right in there. But I still get the same response, “wrong password”. I tried changing my password, which was done successfully, and then got the SAME “wrong password”. I then tried to uninstall the program and also had to put in my password…which was again wrong and I am unable to uninstall Avast Premiere.

Why is this happening and has anyone else had the same problem?

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Sorry, Avast Premiere. I got the deal from Avast late last year to have the Premiere, the VPN and Avast Cleanup Premium. Before I got the Premiere, I had the free version of Avast for years. I am using Windows 10 64bit. I have no other security software Installed on this Dell Latitude E7440 other than the Windows Security software already on this system. I had no problems with the Avast Premiere until I did the Security update as requested by Avast.

  1. Download Avast Premier Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

THANK YOU!! I should have come here when the problem first happened. It would have saved me hours of either loudly voicing my displeasure at that box coming up everywhere, asking for a password I did not have, or just wanting to pick my laptop up and throwing the thing out of the window…seriously.

I have a brain injury, and things I used have alot of knowledge on is gone. And using my laptop, phone and not remembering how to fix problems when they pop up is very frustrating to me. I know that knowledge is still in my head somewhere…it is just taking a VERY LONG TIME to resurface LOL!

Anyhow, I followed the steps you outlined for me and so far so good. Avast is re-installed and I have those downloads now to use if I ever need them again. Thank you again for your help, it is SO appreciated

You’re welcome.
