If you are talking about the home version (and you qualify for non-commercial use for both computers) and they are in the same household, then you need only register once and use the registration key that is send to you on the second computer also.
If you want or require the avast! Pro version, you will need a licence for both computers.
I moved my operating system to a faster computer.
I have Avast home edition. I looked up the key from the first computer, and copied it into my second. The second computer would not accept it.
What do you suggest. Should I down load a new account?
If you tried to copy the key from the licence window or the about avast that won’t work. If you copied it from the email that was sent to you by avast, ensure that you didn’t copy a space at the end of the key.
This is something I've wondered about too.
My MAIN computer crashed . Had to Format HDD so NO Avast!
After getting back online I had to download a Firewall, ZA pronto ! , then Avast! Home ED. and re-registered .
In the downtime I put a Older computer online and downloaded/ installed/ registered, the free version of Avast! , but wasn't absolutey sure I was doing the right thing. Neither computer is or can be online simultaneously ( just the one dialup line ) so I assumed it was o.k.
???
You can have the home version on more than one computer in the same home, providing they both qualify for non-commercial use and you can use the same key on both.
Q: I have "avast! 4 Home" installed on my home computers and have entered the same license key on all of them. Does using the same license key on more than one computer harm the avast! functionality or updating capabilities in any way?
A: No, it doesn’t. The registration of “avast! 4 Home” is implemented due to processing statistics. The same license key on more computers (provided they are used for non-commercial purposes and in home use only) doesn’t harm the avast! functionality or ability to update in any way.
