I currently have 8.0.1489 but whenever I run CCleaner ,it always shows that I also have version 6 which I don’t think shows in the list of installed programs. Why would it show up in CC?
Thank you.

You should remove that version and install the latest which is 2014.9.0.2018

That is not so much because of inadequacies in ccleaner, it isn’t actually identifing the avast version you have - In effect all it is doing is listing all the programs that it can in theory clean crap from.
The is true even if you update to avast 9.0.2018 as suggested by Eddy, ccleaner doesn’t have avast 9.0 in its listing. If you look at the overall listing you will find many programs, not just avast that you don’t even have installed.
I would recommend that under no circumstances should you allow ccleaner to clean anything in avast.
DavidR makes good points…and for FYI Avast 8 is listed in 4.13.4693 version…see pic.
Also, many opinions but you should also make sure CCLeaner does not clean some of the windows items like mem dumps, logs, etc…see pics.
I CAN tell you one thing I use CCleaner for is the uninstaller section.
I can tell you I had nasty problem with JAVA and after trying to deal with a corrupt install only CCleaner uninstall section (in tools) was able to…and easily…remove. Life Saver.
