Nov. 9, 1989 The Berlin Wall came down. The Cold War was all but over.
I remember watching it as it happened. Families reunited. Former East Berliner’s/East Germans
in tears as at long last they could move around all of Germany in freedom. When I was living in
Nebraska I met a student who was studying in Leipzig, East Germany during the student demonstrations.
I asked how “freedom” felt? Her reply, “Before this I had no idea on how good it (freedom) could feel.”
I will never forget her words or the look of pure joy in her face and the big smile she wore. Nor will I ever
forget how tears formed in her eyes.
