3.0.6351 crashes

I’ve run into an unusual issue today, after Avast mobile security was updated to the latest version. I tried running a scan, just to see if everything is okay, and as soon as I launch the user interface, the app crashes. I tried rebooting, opening the app from both the shortcut icon and the tray icon, even uninstalling and re installing the app, but the results are the same. I just get a message that avast mobile security stopped working.

Is this a problem with the app version, or is there something wrong with my device that I need to worry about? My OS is Android 4.1.2 in case it’s relevant.

Update: I went through the comments on the Google play store page and it would seem like I’m not the only one experiencing problems.

Hi,

you have some Samsung device, right?

Filip

Yes.

The I hope fix for that will be in the next version

Filip

Just out of curiosity, when exactly will that be. I mean roughly. Will it work within 24 hours, or could it take significantly more time?

Hi,

probably a longer time since it happens only on some Samsung x OS version combinations and we currently don’t have such a device at the office. We have already ordered some, but it still might take a few days before they arrive (I personally don’t have any information about the date of arrival).

Note that you are still fully protected as before, you just can’t enter the UI of the app.

Filip

That is good to know. But is there a way I can issue a scan? Or maybe there’s a way I can go back to the previous version?

Hi,

I don’t think you can issue a scan without the UI, you will have to rely on shields you have turned on at the moment. And I don’t know of any easy way to revert to previous version, it can’t be done via Google Play, you might be able to find the older version somewhere on the Internet though and if you disable automatic updates for the app, Google Play shouldn’t immediately update it to the current one.

Filip

http://apps.opera.com/en_us/avast_mobile_security.html (2.0.4993)

Yeah, I checked that site, but that version is really old

Filip

Yep, it’s the last one of V2.
It’s up to the OP, if he wants to use it.

Hm. I don’t think I like the idea. I’ll just wait for the update. Hopefully it won’t take too long.

I would like to report that I am having problems with the UI as well. I am using a Motorola XT557D running Android 2.3.7

Might this be related to the same issue with the Samsungs?

Hmm, I don’t know, I think it shouldn’t be. You can’t access the UI at all as well?

Filip

What leads you to this conclusion ??? If you feel it is something else could you please shed some light?

This is correct.

Cause it’s not specific Samsung 4.1.x device  It would be really weird if Samsung and Motorola did the same error independently on different OS versions, wouldn’t it?

In the meantime we got the device and I think we are closing on a fix for that so it would be best if we would wait with your Motorola issue to see if it gets accidentally fixed by that as well

Filip

Sorry, I was under the impression that this thread was about version 3.0.6351 crashing; I didn’t realize that is was somehow Samsung specific ::slight_smile:

Perhaps it is only Samsung users who are complaining. ;D

Version 2.xx.xxxx works fine BUT I could not find an anti-theft apk to work with it. The one in Play store also crashes

Spikes

And how much would that take, if I may ask?
