32bit & 64bit systems

Will be purchasing a new desktop computer soon, and wondered if someone could give me advise about whether to go for a 32 bit or 64 bit system?

Also do 32bit programs run fine on 64 bit systems?

Reason for asking is that I have various programs that I have installed on my 32bit system, and wondered if they will work on a new 64bit system?

64bit is now & the future. 32bit will end.

Yes, but Windows 7 is new so there are problems with a few 32bit & a few 64bit programs.

Maybe if you list the 32bit programs you want to run in Windows 7 64bit you will get feedback on them here.

Hi

If ever I needed to replace one of my computers… Laptop - or - Desktop … I also worry about the 32bit / 64bit thing :-[

When Vista came out… The answer was obvious… Stick with 32bit!
Because you only had to read through the forums to see what problems having a 64bit Vista could bring :frowning:
In The Shops!
Most of the Vista Computers were 32bit.
Just a few 64bit Vista’s showing up here and there.

But with Windows 7 the answer isn’t so obvious :-
Haven’t heard many people complaining of problems with their 64bit Windows 7 8)
And… In The Shops!
Lots of 64bit Windows 7 Computers
And not quite so many 32bit.

So! … Don’t Know Really! ???

For me, it doesnt really matter.

The thing is the PC works without any problems regardless of type[32/64 bit]^^

Actually I have a 64bit architecture OS, and I like it. Most of the applications that are begin to get delivered are 32&64 bit os compatible and some use 64 bit drivers which is pretty cool.

So would you think that stuff like Winrar that I currently use on 32 bit would work ok on the 64 bit system?

I don’t want to have to start searching for new programs being that the one I have is a full version, especially if it wouldn’t work on 64 bit.

Most would work since 64 bit is getting more attention.

WinRAR for 64bit

Yeah, but that’s my problem you see, the version of Winrar that I have is a full version, not limited, and I don’t want to have to pay for another.

I don’t know as I use 7zip but you may ask their Support Team if there is a free license cnversion for those who want to upgrade to 64 bit.

This link might help.

I also have 7-Zip 4.65, I wonder if this would work on the 64 bit system.

There’s an x64 version of 7-zip

Thank you.
