3F0 Error only during Virus Scan

Hi Folks, I need some help if anyone can please.

I have an HP PC, When I do a virus scan with Avast Free, I get the 3F0 error at any random moment during the scan (see attached image), this happens at no other time other than during a virus scan.

All ‘quick’ and ‘Extended’ hardware tests available through the ‘HP Hardware Diagnostics’ utility pass fine, I’ve also tried sfc /scannow and DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, all to no avail.

BIOS and all drivers are up to date.

Since this started, I have been able to complete one scan successfully so I don’t think it’s caused by a virus.

Has anyone else experienced this during a virus scan? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could cause this at random times only during a virus scan?

I guess I should’ve added my Scan settings, It’s a custom scan I’m using with the following items checked:

Scan type: Full Virus Scan

Sensitivity: Medium

Notify me about Potentially unwanted programs

Scan for Tools

Follow file-system links during scan

Test whole files

Scan Priority: High

All Hard Disks

All removable media

Rootkits

UEFI BIOS

Startup programs and modules loaded in memory

Scan all archives

Scan all files

I’ve left ‘Perform automatic actions during this scan’ unchecked.

These are the same settings I used for my previous HP PC without any issues.
