4.5 Not Scanning Email

I have 4.5 running on two computers, both XP Pro. On one PC it works as expected, but on the other PC I noticed it is not scanning Internet email. I have checked the provider status and it says running, no errors. The PC is sending and receiving mail via Outlook Express just fine. But the count of scanned messages just stays at zero. This PC is using all of the other providers except Outlook/Exchange and those providers show that they are scanning. Why does the Internet Mail provider not scan the mail?

Setup the mail as if Avast isn’t there. That way Avast should scan the mail automaticly.
Do you have other security software installed? (spamfilter or something like that)

Are the avast! settings the same in both PCs?
Are you using OE in both PCs?

Are you viewing the scanned count in the right provider (Internet Mail)?

The settings in the POP tag should be the same, with the exception you may not want to insert a not into clean message.

Thanks - email is setup as if avast is not installed. No other software involved that I know of.

I checked both PCs and they’re setup the same. One does not scan Internet Mail, and the other one does.

Set Avast to log everything, under the mailscanner section in avast4.ini.
It should look like:

[MailScanner]
Log=20

Then send yourself a email and check Avast’s log file to see if it tells us more about what is going on.

Found it. The PC that wasn’t scanning is set to use different POP and SMTP ports on the mailserver. I needed to use pop/smtpredirectport in the ini file. Thanks
