4.6 Pro Slows Down Greatly when Ameritrade Java Streamer is On

Hello,

Currently, I use avast! Pro 4.6 on two computers (1-year paid licenses).

When I’m in Internet Explorer (Win XP Pro, SP2, P4 3.0 H/T w/1G RAM) viewing stocks on the Ameritrade site (https://www.ameritrade.com) and then open a new window to continue surfing on other sites, the surfing speed slows down greatly on approximately 50% of them.

Most recently, I’ve used KAV 5 Business Optimal for Windows Workstation and experienced no such percent slowdown (and KAV 5 did do some browser scanning, I believe).

Is there a setting in the avast! ini file I might change to speed things up? I really prefer avast to KAV, but this slowdown has got me down. ::slight_smile:

Thanks in advance.

Whilst, I can’t view the trades data being updated, etc. The main page loads quickly using firefox and on a dial-up connection.

Hello DavidR,

Yes, it seems now as if my ISP is to blame for the slowdown. I think they must know I’m changing to another in a week or so.

I’ll report again if the slowdown reoccurs, but for now things are moving well, browsing-wise.

Good luck with the switch of ISP and with AmeriTrade.

Actually, this is the worst thing we were afraid of when designing the Web Shield.
Now, people start blaming us that their Internet connection is slow every time there’s a problem (even though it is not related in any way with avast)

Let’s see if our assumption was correct.

Hello Vlk,

Latency issues notwithstanding, I believe avast! is a super program. Thanks also for working with RitLabs (I use TheBat! for my email).
