4.8.1348 beta

Anything “under the hood” worth mentioning?

Also updated to 4.8.1348…
Works fine here

Am I missing something here ???
Where is it ???

You need this file:
http://files.avast.com/files/beta/aswbeta.exe
Simply run it.
But notice that you have to disable avast! self defence before running aswbeta.exe.
And don’t forget reenabeling self defence after the update…

kind regards

Ok…I’ll give it a go, thanks

Is there any announcements etc.? just seems kinda out of the blue…

Hi,

Is there any changes?

No problems here, I am happy to say.

I think it was a fortuity finding from Vladimyr…

Perhaps they have it prepared but not quite ready to release the news as they usually do, so a bit strange in that regard.

So far, the only difference I have seen with the beta is the on-access scanner windows:

No ad (I don’t really know if it had been removed before though)
‘More options’ window has been reshuffled a bit

I like it

EDIT:Helps if I add the images ::slight_smile:
Man, the gif quality of the Windows snipping tool is crap…

EDIT2:That’s better, some nicer images, a bit more work, but it’s worth it. And they’re smaller

EDIT3:Ok, little thing, not sure if it is the beta or not but:
Open up the skin chooser, and move the window about. Can you see the little bar on the bottom which is completely transparent?
In my image you can sorta see the end of “will microsofts free app…” and Bob3160’s name (it was above FF at the time

I wonder what they have in mind now if the ad has been removed. Not only that the column to the left of the window has returned as that was removed. But by all accounts that can be changed without a program update as that is how it came about before a GUI update.

I did have a temporary hitch.

1.) when i double clicked the aswbeta.exe it was like oki. then when installer tried to connect to the internet, win 7 hit me with a error: close the program (privatefirewall(pf) 6.1) or check online and close the program as if some kinda error has happened. when the setup was downloading files from the internet, i tried to start pf, again win 7 hit me with the same error. i closed the firewall.

installation was completed, did a reboot then both pf and avast beta were back.

2.) i opened on-access protection control and clicked standard shield in the details mode. it was normal. after a minute, i clicked on webshield, and on-access scanner did not respond. window manager showed that it was not responding, tried to bring up task manager even that was not possible(just like when system hangs up). waited for a minute, and then everything was fine. did this thing happen to anyone?.

Hi nmb,

I don’t really know about #1, but #2

Do you mean just clicking between the standard shield icon/Wehshield icon on the left?
I don’t get what you do when I click between them, seems to work fine for me.

-Scott-

yes, the webshield. but now it seems to be oki.

I don't get what you do when I click between them, seems to work fine for me.

not clicking between them, but on the webshield icon it self.

edit :

Open up the skin chooser, and move the window about. Can you see the little bar on the bottom which is completely transparent?

same here.

Hmmm…

I don’t know, I have no problems, maybe something else was going on at the same time…

Update complete. ;D

Here,update and have fun.

Read the topic, if you can’t figure out how to get it, perhaps you shouldn’t be beta testing security software.

Beta software, especially beta security software isn’t something to take lightly, there are risks involved in beta software. Whilst avast beta builds are generally stable, this one hasn’t even been notified officially in the forums where it would normally be.

So for me this isn’t officially sanctioned and you should at least wait until it is if you feel you are comfortable with the risk involved in beta testing security software.
