4.8 Registration Renewal

My avast 4.8 Registration will expire in 18 days as per the Red Popup this morning.

I think I vaguely recall how I used to do it in the Pre-5.0 days to renew the Registration.
But, with the avast site having changed now in the 5.0 era, I can’t quite find the area for simply renewing a Registration. I believe I am only seeing where one gets a NEW Registration.

Should I just do that? Should I just simply get a NEW Registration?

Maybe a dumb question, but why don’t you go for the 5.0??

On the bottom of the Avast! home page there’s a “Quick links” box.
The first option here is “Register your license for avast!Home Edition 4.8”
This’ll take you in to the familiar registration screen.

I’ve tried using that form and it doesn’t work. It’ll take the details and tell me that it has sent a license but if i wait 24 hours it doesn’t turn up, it isn’t caught in a spam filter and if i request a resend it tells me that the email addresses i’ve tried aren’t known to the system.

I may update to 5.0 but only after i’ve had chance to evaluate the alternatives. Not being able to continue using 4.8 when i apparently should be able to is a push in the wrong direction. I hope this is only a website error that can be quickly fixed.

Thanks, SimonG! I went there and supposedly the Registration was successful.
I’ll find out when I go to my other Screen Name, probably in the morning.

From checking out the Forums, Nnnnggg, I just don’t feel 5.0 is stable enough for my liking YET.
Maybe 4.8 spoiled me in that it works everyday, every week, every month … it just works PERIOD!
Without any BSODs, Freezes, Random Reboots, Shield deactivating by themselves and whatever other issues I read about here.

I was hoping this next Program Update would give me the feeling that any lingering BSOD remnants would have been addressed and squashed. That doesn’t appear to be the case from what I read.

I think I remember that the last time around that I tried to renew my Registration, it didn’t want to go through. As per a suggestion here in the Forums, I created a Yahoo E-mail account and used that as my E-mail Address instead of my AOL one. This time it went through.

Hi there,

I’m having the very same problem with renewal of 4.8. But, allthough I would not necessarly mind moving to 5.0, many of my customers are stil using 4.8 as well. Therefore it would come handy if I can tell them how to continue in 4.8 for some time. I can’t afford having troubles with an unstable program at my customers sites.
I followed the Quick Links tip from this post, but then landed on the very same New Registration page. How to?

Greetings, Ronald
(Sorry for bad English, I’m Dutch)

That’s the correct page. Go ahead, fill it in. The license key will be submitted via email. I just tested it: takes about 10 minutes.
The email contains information on how to insert in 4.8 and in 5.

Tnx Zyndstoff,

I got the license key allright and was able to insert it into the Avastclient, as I was used to do for years now. Got to wait some days to see if it is a renewal key indeed, or merely a reactivation (which I didn’t need). So far so good and thanks again.

Ronald

A potential answer could be:
Occasionally I’m using an older notebook (CeleronIII-1000) with a Win98 License.

I’ve done so, but within 2 hours I haven’t got any email.

It says “within 24 hrs” - so, be a little patient.
And check your junk folder - some providers sort it out as junk, some don’t even let it through, maybe.
