4 XP Pro PCs hang at AswRVRT.sys

I’m helping a library where 4 out of 4 Internet PCs won’t boot and I think the trouble started after a MS Updates like others have reported. If I boot normally I get the normal splash screen and get thrown into a registry defrag (light blue screen) and gets to C:\windows\system32\config\security and then reboots. Trying to go into safe mode or command prompt it hangs trying to load AswRvrt.sys and sits there for awhile and reboots. I’ve noticed a lot of your solutions are to download something to the desktop … we never can to the desktop so we can’t go that route.

I’m there normal tech and what happened was an kid in high school talked the director into working on these PCs and ever since then we’ve had this problem. The director has a big heart and the kid meant well but this has bitten us in the rear. I live 45 minutes away and might have to take one of the PCs home to work on unless you can get to me soon … I’m a moderator on a boat forum so I know how that goes

Hi,

I’ve asked Essexboy to come assist you. He’s usually online right around now. YOu’ll most likely need a USB drive.

I’ve seen his name mentioned many times doing Google searches on this problem. Sounds like he’s Da’ Man! Thanks!!

Also do I have to use Recapticha each time I post/reply?

Only until your third post or so.

Hi go to this thread and create the OTLPE CD http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 (it is near the bottom of the first post )

You can use this CD then on all 4 systems
I will need a separate FRST log for each one as they may be slightly different

If you need to create a USB instead then let me know
