After upgrading to avast! 5.0.545, I configured avast! similar to the way it was on avast! 4.8. This included disabling a few individual provider modules(P2P, IM Shields) which will likely be inactive. However, after doing this, a yellow caution icon is now hovering over the avast! icon in the system tray and the message “avast! Antivirus: Attention, your system is not fully protected.” showing when hovering the mouse cursor over the avast! icon. Is this a cause for concern?
Yep, by unchecking which components are monitored by the Status Bar, the yellow caution icon doesn’t appear and the message “avast! Antivirus: Your system is secured.” shows when hovering the mouse cursor over the avast! icon.
If those deactivated shields aren’t going to be used at all, e.g. you don’t use the applications they are associated with (P2P or IM, etc.), then it would be better to simply uninstall them.
Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Change, click next and from the new window, select the Shields you don’t use (exercise care not to uncheck other shields) click OK through to completion.
