5 minutes to scan 4 mails........ :-(

hello

its becae to be very annoying…
i used avast with xp pro fr sp2 since…a long time…
since the new version of avast i’ve got always this same big problem…
avast made a long time to scan my mails when it found a virus and i cant delete this virus when avast ask me what i want to do…i just can click “ok”…
…if i click “delete”, avast say it cant find the mail with virus… ???

help me please !

Set Avast to run in silent mode. Let us know if it helps/solves anything.

i try this in the past…
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=8838;start=0
i try avast beta too…

If you choose the Silent Mode, when you click on the buttom, maybe the infected file was already deleted ::slight_smile:

no…virus is not deleted…virus’s always attached with my mail…

Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

It will be good running SpyBot and Ad-aware too… You’re infected

no infections : i do a complete scan by avast last night, i used spybot and ad-aware too
i used spyware guard and spyware blaster…and i’ve got a firewall well configured… 8)

no change… ::slight_smile:

Eric, it’s becoming a mistery… :-\ ???
Is the attached file (the infected one) a big one or an archive file?

generally an archive files… ::slight_smile:

have you tried an online scanner?

yep…with trend pc-cillin…

…and this problem happened just with the last update of avast…
…i used avast since…1 year at least, and i’ve got no problem…

Which one? *.zip, *.arj?
What is the size of the files?

i cant reply before…next viruses…
i delete files manually at each times…in case of my girlfriend ad a bad idea when seein these files… 8)

but i repeat i’ve got this problem only with new avast…i used it since at least 1 years with no problems…and spread good speech about it…

Hi Eric, you were saying that you get a number of those:

AAVM - scanning error: ClientRqDispatchThread: OpenEventsAndMapping failed - client probably died, 00000159.

in the Event Log. Each such an error should be preceded by another one (a different message, such as “OpenEventsAndMapping: xxxx failed”). Do you see any such a message? If so, can you post their exact form?

Or even better, can you post the contents of the file \data\log\error.log?

BTW aren’t you, by any chance, using the Fast User Switching feature of Windows XP? Or a Remote Desktop?

Thanks
Vlk

hi vlk
as soon as possible i reply…(night was short… 8) )
i try avast beta version since yesterday and i haven’t got this message…but always problems…
…but to answer your question, this is the other message : "AAVM - scanning error: OpenEventsAndMapping: OpenEvent failed!, 00000002. "

and a extract of the contents of the file \data\log\aswMaiSv.log…
…i havent got error logs files…

Are you using the last build 4.5.536?
It solves the timeout problems.

actually i try last beta version updated…
…with same results…
:-\

Hello,

I’ve the same problem as eric with avast beta 4.5.536 ; it takes more than 3 minutes to pop an eicar infected simple mail while a clean simple one is very quick.

Configuration :
laptop win xp sp2 french.
outlook express 6, get mail with pop protocol
ISP connection through dial-up (connect at 33kb/s)
avast home beta 4.5.536 french / silent mode / mail scanner at normal sensibility /
setup to send an SMTP alert when a virus is found

Test :
Get eicar infected mail and clean mail from :
http://www.aleph-tec.com/eicar/index.php

Result :
Long delay to get mail and the following error in avast error.log :

27/11/2004 14:09:36 1101560976 SYSTEM 1752 AAVM - scanning error: OpenEventsAndMapping: OpenEvent failed!, 00000002.
27/11/2004 14:09:36 1101560976 SYSTEM 1752 AAVM - scanning error: ClientRqDispatchThread: OpenEventsAndMapping failed - client probably died, 00000003.

Remark :
When I switch the ISP connection from dial-up to ADSL, the mail are retrieved quickly but still the infected mails are longer than clean ones to get. No avast error with ADSL.

Hope you can find a solution

Farfouille

yep !
same problem…im not alone… :stuck_out_tongue:
just one difference : i used adsl everytime…
…actually to retrived quickly my mails i should stop avast mail protection… ::slight_smile:
