501 Error even when I am root

I am trying to disable my avast and I type my root password in to approve the request. And I get the following errors:

1: You don’t have permission to save the file “501” in the folder “elevation”.
2. Communication with Avast service failed. The operation couldn’t be completed. No such process
3. Configuration error!Configuration failed. See system log for details.

Self explanatory, I do not have permission but even from my root account? I have disabled my avast plenty of times and this never became an issue until now. Any suggestions on how to get around this?

Hello,
/Library/Application Support/Avast/run/elevation folder should have a sticky bit so the application can create a folder with its uid inside. Could you please check the permissions?

Best Regards,
Martin

ls -l /Library/Application\ Support/Avast/run/
total 32
srw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 0 Feb 23 13:14 api.sock
-rw-r–r-- 1 root wheel 5 Feb 23 13:14 avast.pid
drwxrwxrwt 2 root wheel 68 Feb 23 13:14 elevation

I’m having a very similar problem and can’t make sense of the recommendation below. The folder destination cited doesn’t exist in my Avast installation. The “run” folder doesn’t contain an “elevation” subfolder.

I’m not certain how long this has been happening, but it may have begun upon ugprading to El Capitan 10.11.1

I am unable to perform any of the settings within the Avast control panel due to the same compound errors reported by kraulik.

Please advise.

run the command

ls -l /Library/Application\ Support/Avast/run/

if elevation file is missing, add it to the directory, then check again

it just worked for me!!

then open avast and in settings change the directory with administrator permission
