6 avast background tasks running normal?? / Win10 Pro 64bit

Hello folks,

I run avast free on my Win 10 pro 64 bit.
I was surprised today to see in my task manager there are 6 instances of avast running in the backgruond.
4x “Avast Antivirus”
1x “Avast remediation exe”
1x “Avast software analyser”

Is that suspicious?
The reason why I even looked at task manager is because since a few days my computer has new weird moments of laggin
while doing regular stuff like typing stuff or when I click on “shut down” (german “herunterfahren”) the system doesnt react for a few seconds before it then shuts down.
And the 6 avast tasks were the only surprise I ran into.

I’m 95% sure that it was maybe 1 task or 2 tasks in the past. Not 6.
To be honest: I didn’t open the task manager for ages now but I did more often a year ago or so, when I set up the PC
as I was pretty proud of my not overloaded and pretty stable system and had looks at the tasks going on in my task manager then.

Lookin forward to hear you experience & opinions
Thanks & best regards

It is pretty much normal, also depends on what you are doing at the time.

In most cases the Avast Antivirus, if you right click on the entry in the Task Manager and select Properties, it will show it as AvastUI.exe which is user interface related, you should see that each one is using little or no RAM or CPU.

See my attached Task Manager screenshots.

It has become common in many programs (browser for one) to have multiple entries each one doing something different, rather than have one task doing multiple things. In most cases would be slower, multi tasking rather than individual task. Just take a look at your browser for instance, the number relates to the number of active tabs that you have open.

Thank you David,
absolutely informative & helpful.
It’s exactly like you said: little usage, the “real” multitask thing makes sense.
And yes: They are all kinda running AvastUI.exe.
Great

You’re welcome.
