I just registered my free Avast Home Version, but find an icon on my desktop for a 60 day trial version.
Should I just delete that one?
The active version has an icon in the system tray and is working fine.
When I ran the scanner from the desktop version, it discovered an infection called “TrendMicro.exe”.
I don’t think this is a virus, only a virus scanner.
Can I ignore this?
Do you mean this is a persistent situation, even after boot?
You should not have two icons… Did you install avast twice (in two different folders)? ??? :
Submit the file to Jotti and let us know the results, i.e., if it is or not a false positive.
To my knowledge I did not install it twice.
My inclination is to delete the icon and forget about it
As to the file, it is a totally legit program and in all probability it ia a false positive. I am inlined to idnore it.
Thanks for the Re:
Right click on the Desktop icon and select Properties, look at Shortcut Tab in the Target window if it goes to “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashAvast.exe” then it is ok (this is the default installation location).
You can always change the Shortcut Name in the General Tab if you don’t like the mention of 60 day trial, etc.
