Just a quick question -
With 7.0.1426 and dial-up; can Avast be delayed from seeking updates until my ISP fully initializes?
Both activities occurring simultaneously will often cause one or the other to fail.
Many thanks,
Joe

Hi,
in avast settings, under UPDATES, under UPDATES PARAMETERS, have you selected the box “I only connect to the internet using a dial-up modem” and unchecked the box “My computer is permanently connected to the internet” ?
Delay Auto Update - In avast7 you need to edit (using notepad) avast5.ini the [InetWD] section of the, C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\avast5.ini. Win7, Vista location - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\avast5.ini (XP file location)
[InetWD] UseRAS=1 RASWaitSeconds=600When complete save the changes, avast's self-defence module will ask for confirmation, etc. answer Yes.
This will delay the first autoupdate check to 10 minutes after the dial up connection is established, in conjunction with the other settings that giogio gave.
Many thanks for the quick replies.
I had noted the modification in previous posts prior to my inquiry, but I could not find the file so I thought the name may have changed in the latest release.
Then I got smart -
You must have Show Hidden Files and Folders enabled under View in Folder Options or the Application Data folder will not be visible.
The modification resolved my problems.
Thanks again,
Joe
You’re welcome.
With win7 and possibly Vista the folder may be hidden as you found.
