I updated to 7.0.1473, it restarted my computer, and the Start Bar remained frozen, and I was unable to load any programs. I booted in safe mode, downloaded aswclear, removed Avast entirely, restarted, and the computer seems to be running fine. When I had version 7.0.1466 (I think that was the prior version?) loaded, the computer had no problems. Is there a way for me to download .1466 again, and not just the latest version?
You can go here to download avast! Free .1466
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus
If you are using Pro or AIS, Filehippo should also have a page for each.
It is a greate website for locating and downloading prior versions, as well as the latest version. of most software apps, including all popular apps
Probably a really stupid question, since I doubt anyone on an antivirus forum would recommend something untrustworthy, but is FileHippo a well-known site? I’m only worried because as of right now, I actually have no antivirus program installed…the fine irony of getting a virus while downloading antivirus software would befall me, if anyone…
hey. yes filehippo is a trust wordy site so now problem downloading files from there.
OK, another strange problem has arisen…
I just went to Filehippo, and it took me to the page for 1473. I clicked on the link at the right side of the page for 1466, and clicked the “download this version” button. As soon Avast finished installing after I ran the installer, it showed I had downloaded 1473. I restarted the computer to the same problem I encountered when I updated my original Avast from 1466 to 1473.
I’m in the process of uninstalling AGAIN and trying a second time to get the proper version. Does anyone have any ideas on what I did wrong?
EDIT: I just looked at the filesizes listed on Filehippo for 1473 and 1466. When I click the download button for 1466, it’s showing as the filesize for 1473. Apparently it’s the wrong download?
You need to disconnect from the internet when installing older versions otherwise it’ll just update to the latest version.
Wowww, I didn’t even think of that. Let me go ahead and give that a shot to see if it helps!
Sorry for the double post, but now I’m really confused.
I just downloaded what was supposedly 1466 from Filehippo, then disconnected from the internet, and it STILL loaded me with 1473!
Am I nuts here or something? I know people are saying they’ve retreated to 1466, so there must be some way to do it. Any other suggestions on how to get back to 1466, or if there’s somewhere else to click on Filehippo to get the proper file??
The page and link im looking at shows the correct size of 89.32mb for 1466 http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/13108/
The newer 1473 is 92.33mb.
Yes, that’s the same page I’m using. When I click on the “download this version” button, I’m still getting a file which is 92.33mb. No matter what version I click on, and then click the download button, it’s ALWAYS the newest size of 92.33mb.
I’ve tried clearing the cache and using ATFCleaner, but that’s not helping either. Is the download messed up somehow, or is there some other download button on Filehippo I should be using?
It does too, strange.
This is so typical of our luck. :o
Anybody have any ideas? I really don’t like the thought of running without an antivirus.
Try here Himochi http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php it’s a safe site
Remember to disconnect when installing.
I’m currently in the process of uninstalling my most recent attempt. XD I’ll let you know how this URL works out as soon as I try it.

I just tested the download and it does bring in the correct version and size, download and save first then disconnect before running http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php
HUZZAH! At last, version 1466!! ;D
Thanks so very, very much for your help! We installed and restarted and the computer booted properly. Hopefully a fix will be applied soon!
Thanks again!!
Your welcome, no idea why the new release doesn’t work for some but im sure the avast guys are looking in to it.
Himochi, what is your OS? Do you have other security apps (MBAM, MS Defender, etc.) installed?
We’d be really happy if you could try to generate a dump from the situation when your computer is frozen - https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1356
thank you
Lukas.
Thanks to all who posted here.
It took awhile, but this whole routine worked for me … (so far)
I did make sure though to change my settings so the program will not automatically update. I’ll wait for avast! to post a fix before updating again.
