7zip icon pack

installed 7zip a few minutes ago, just out of curiosity as I’ve been using WinRar exclusively for many years, then found out that hmm…7Zip compresses a bit better than WinRar :o how can that be ??? ;D
Okay my point here is that,as I just really didn’t like the toolbar icons in 7zip I googled that and found this:
hxxp://www.codedawn.com/index/7-zip-icon-pack-for-windows-xp

scanned with Avast >>> nothing
uploaded to virus total >>> was already analysed >>> https://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c9729f24f94a0f5ee51a3a6647b66aafae94c785265cb41931a72c96030c583c-1269914922

and the archive is flagged by Jiangmin (who’s that ???) as “Trojan/Sasfis.gxm” and by Symantec as “Suspicious.Insight”.

What’s your take, safe or not? My guess is FPs from the two providers…

It’s probably safe but I have a better one you can use that has much better looking icons. I have it uploaded at ADrive.

Just follow the readme instructions and be sure to run the .reg file and it will work perfectly.

Example of the icons.

okay thanks I’ll take a look

Hi Logos,

Here you have the analysis for the realMcCoy, the malcode flagged:

But I would also go for Dch48’s suggestion and have no questions in the aftermath,
so “wax” your zipfiles well, ;D

pol

Well on those results of VT I wouldn’t be overly concerned, but given that those results were from three months ago I would have had VT rescan the upload to see if there are any more results or any less.

There was a post on the Interesting software topic I believe relating to that 7zip icon pack (I think this one is different) and at first I misunderstood how to get it working there was a .reg file to run (I checked it first) even after that I still have the same default 7z icon and see no way to change that.

This one is different in the fact it has an installer so there isn’t an easy way to check exactly what it does before taking the leap of faith.

Now that Dch48 has arrived that was the one I was talking about the icons are much nicer than the ones in this pack, unfortunately I have been unable to get them to work.

@ Dch48: doesn’t work. I should have mentioned that I’m using the 64 bit version of 7zip (beta), but the program folder for 64 bit apps is called the same as in 32 OS, so the path in the registry file is right. Don’t know why it doesn’t work…I saw the site and yep the icons look nice. That’s your site?

@ david, yeah you’re right I didn’t look at the date, I should have re-run the analysis. It’s uploaded again…waiting…

File 7zip_icons.zip received on 2010.07.01 22:34:13 (UTC) Current status: waiting The scanner that was processing your file is stopped at this moment, we are going to wait a few seconds to try to recover your result. If you are waiting for more than five minutes you have to resend your file.

okay Symantec doesn’t detect it anymore, only the other mysterious provider

thanks Pol’, very nice link, I didn’t know it

edit: yeah I saw that page before, just forgot about it, very nice tool

Yes just this one that I have never heard of before:

Jiangmin 13.0.900 2010.07.01 Trojan/Sasfis.gxm

So I would say it is highly likely to be an FP:

It’s not my site. I just found the icon pack somewhere when I installed 7-zip and didn’t like the icons. It worked fine for me on XP so I don’t get why it’s not working for you guys.

Okay I may have found the problem. Apparently the new 9.xx versions of 7-zip install the program in a folder called 7zip instead of 7-zip. There is a new version of the icon replacements available that has the .reg files needed for both the new 7-zip and the 4.xxx versions.

Get v3

okay thanks, I’ll try them later today

ps: I should have noticed about the difference of naming for the 7zip folder in the reg file ;D

anyway, about that other pack I mentioned in the beginning of this thread, I submitted to Avira and they say it’s clean. But I still won’t use it.

edit: I just had a look at the first reg file I tried yesterday, and it points to a 7-zip folder, which is appropriate, so there must be something else going wrong…

Well I’m not using the beta builds and the last regular release is 4.65 and still uses the 7-zip program files folder name.
