Today I had to uninstall Avast from my relative’s computer b/c it prevented Windows from displaying. It would display just right up to Windows landing in desktop then the labtop lcd would go black. So long story short, I had to go to safe mode and uninstall Avast which solved the problem. Specifically I believe the the 9.0.2011 update conflicted with the display drivers for the integrated intel 4500 mhd b/c a couple of days ago 9.0.2008 was working without incident on that machine. She never turns off her computer, she just uses sleep so, I guess today was the day where she restarted or whatever and the update finally hit.
If it is my computer I would have the patience to try to provide Avast log files and diagnostic information, but its not. However I still wanted to report it.
I don’t think either are related or similar in anyway, one is the latest Intel card which would mean we would have every user with a new Intel system turning up on the doorstep with complaints which we don’t and the other is Nvidia and there are no recent complaints on the Nvidia forums similar to his matter.
Unfortunately it didn’t, one of the first things I tried was awsclear and all that stuff. The intel 4500 MHD is old integrated chipset during the core 2 duo days, Intel driver support is pretty bad, especially with older products so the lastest driver release was in 2012, of course I updated that and it didn’t make a difference.
It may be intel’s fault their drivers support being so bad, but all I know is the problem started with the Avast update and only went away after I uninstalled Avast.
