Probably a simple answer to this, but I’m just not into tinkering like I used to be… I think getting my first Android device diluted my interest.
My vicious cycle is; My home (Win7/Win10) computer is asleep all day while I’m at work; I get home and start it up to use for maybe an hour, and most of that time my AVAST (IS) is scanning in the background, slowing it down, and when I’m done I put it back into sleep mode.
I hate to leave it run all day to be available for a scheduled scan; what I’m seeking is an automatic “scan before sleep” (think Windows Updates).
I’m sure there are some great ideas out there; thanks in advance!
your avast have realtime protection (all AV have that) meaning EVRYTHING that goes on inside your computer when on is monitored by avast
if you absolutely want a on demand scan, why not activate screensaver scan, it start and stop with the screensaver so no shedule needed
avast screensaver scan >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a6EcoLK5H8
With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.
I used to have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. But I have ceased this practice for some time now, based in the above.
Presumably you don’t work 7 days a week so your computer would be on for longer time frames, you could have your scheduled scans run sometime during the weekend.
There is also an option on the scheduled scan to wakeup the system run the scan and have the system go back into sleep mode when the scan is complete. Depending on your settings as a detection could wait for your input, if you don’t have it set to repair and if that fails send to the virus chest. That said there have been some topics reporting the system doesn’t go back into sleep mode, not sure if that is widespread or OS and system settings.
Pondus, I tried the screen saver; in Win 7 it brought up the settings and seems to be working. However in Windows 10, choosing the avast screen saver and choosing settings just blinks; no Avast settings appear. I’m not sure if it’s working or not. Any ideas?
My home (Win7/Win10) computer is asleep all day while I'm at work;Waste of energy/money. Do you also leave all lights on when you are not at home or sleeping ?
I get home and start it up to use for maybe an hour, and most of that time my AVAST (IS) is scanning in the background, slowing it downIt is not most of the time, it is all the time since avast scans in real time. And ofcourse it is using cpu time as does any application you are using.
Despite your opinion Eddy, I can confirm the problem and am reporting this problem to Avast.
