A couple questions

OK well I have a few questions about avast! anti-virus Home Edition.

My first question is, when I click a link, I know there is a chance it may be encoded. There are only a few times where it has given me a warning about a Win32 virus encoded in the page. When this happens it makes the alert noise and tells me that it has detected a virus, and gives me the option to about connection. Now I read the FAQ and it says that by doing this it doesn’t allow the virus to save to my hard disc. Now I am paranoid about viruses so after this happens I always scan. Now my question is, if the warning comes up and says “Abort Connection” but before it does come up I close out of the page, could the virus still be on the computer? Also regarding this, is it necessary to scan after an “abort” warning comes up? Also regarding this, if the abort failed would the other warning come up telling me I can delete the virus?

My second question is, after my avast! is done scanning it always comes up with a few files that it couldn’t scan and it gives me options to do things to those files. But most of them if I remember correctly were system32 files and it won’t ket me do anything with them. Is there any thing I can do with them or is there any threat to my computer?

Now here is a few questions compiled together:

  1. What are some good free Anti-Spyware programs. I currently have AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy. AVG anti-spyware is OK but unless you pay for it you dont get the resident shield which is a good feature.
  2. Is there any program that will check the page before I visit it, scanning for either viruses or spyware?

No it can’t. Closing the browser window will close the connection and if it tries to be established, WebShield will have block it.

No, it isn’t.

IF this happen, and you have Standard Shield sensitivity level to HIGH, you will be warned.

By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.

Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

Residents (free) are SpywareDoctor Started Edition and SpywareTerminator.
Other on-demand are a-squared or SuperAntispyware.
