Everyday, Avast will do a quick scan on my computer.
Today, it found a Malware: The uninstaller of Notepad++
I think this is a false-positive, since it has been always here in my computer
If you are talking about an on-demand scan, avast doesn’t do a quick scan on your computer everyday unless you schedule it.
Is that what you are doing ?
If not can you expand on what scan this is, a screenshot of the detect could have helped.
Many uninstall functions because of their function the removal of components, registry entries, etc. These can be mistaken for malicious actions. The Win32:Malware-gen is a generic ‘-gen’ detection, one that is designed to catch multiple variants of piece of malware.
when there is a detection, what actions do you have avast take ?
If you allow antonymous action, you have no control over what action to take. I would suggest you change your scan settings, see attached image and check that box to see other actions you want to take. For me that would be No Action, on completion of the scan you should be able to determine what actual action you want to take.
Personally I feel that on-demand scans are much depreciated.
With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
