I’m not being able to backup due to this error. It stops at ~80% and does not go further.

Seems a 4.3 + supersu issue. Any workaround?

This had happened to me and could not find an answer. I finally fixed it by dis-connecting my avast account in the backup and then dis-connected my avast account in the Avast Mobile Security. Then all I did was reconnected the Avast Mobile security and the Backup to my Avast account again and it was able to backup with no issues.
