Avast I.S. 2014 is still blocking my home network and home group, even when I disabled the avast Firewall.
No problem with my modem/router and no problem when I use AVG Free.
3 or 4 times I got the mention : contact between pc’s only allowed with the license “Premier”.
With 25 months subscription avast! Internet Security to go, I was obliged to delete avast! and to download AVG Free to have access on my home network and home group.
Thanks for your answer.
Then, I’ll wait until after next week.
I only work with my home network or home group and I do not know what you mean with the Remote Assistance avast! feature (I’m 62 years old and not an expert).
avast! Premier has a feature that allow you to give remote assistance to other users. Or, on contrary, ask for another user to give remote assistance to you.
Just saw this post. Would you happen to know when that upgrade is coming out next week? Like Andre, installing Avast 2014 IS has now rendered my home network useless
I just recieved an answer from avast! Support. I believe it will interest you too.
You can read it here below.

Hello André! I’m sorry for the late reply.
Thank you for contacting AVAST Software company with your concerns.
Reinstall avast! completely, please. It seems to be the easiest solution of the problem.
Even if you did it before, do it again this way, using the uninstall utility, please:
Download the uninstall utility onto your desktop from this page:
Open (execute) the uninstall utility (in Windows Safe Mode, of course)
If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
Click REMOVE
After using that tool, restart your computer
Download the latest version of avast! from this page:
Finally, insert your license file (if you’re using the paid version) or register the program (if you’re using the free version).
Your license file can be sent again upon filling up this form:
Please let us know if doing a total uninstall reinstall fixes you. I already did this as avast 8 quit updating to begin with so that’s why I updated to 2014
N° 1 is wired - DSL
N° 2 : WiFi - WPA2 - Personal Type AES
N° 3 : WiFi also
I de-installed AVG Free and installed the AVAST Internet Security as proposed by AVAST Technical Support on N° 2 : It worked, Perfect.
I did the same with N° 3 : It worked, Fantastic.
I had a complete approach in my Home Network and Home Group.
Remained N° 1, the wired one. You guess … : All 3 blocked again.
On N° 1, I previously had a crash with some HP software (scanner) and thought this could be the cause, so I did a complete re-install of Win7 with the Recovery DVD.
My whole Home Network and Windows Firewall still are blocked (attachment) and again, no way to unblock. My happiness didn’t last for long.
My modem/router has been controlled by my Internet-provider and is OK (any problem with AVG Free).
So, I’ll have to contact the AVAST Technical Support again.
Thanks so much for replying. Our are connected via Ethernet cables to our router. There was another suggestion made on a post of mine to create a new homegroup and have all the pcs connect to the new group. It didn’t work for us. I left my home group, hubby left his, he made a new one and the only option I had under homegroup was to create a new one, no join option
Maybe I have to do a re-install of AVAST I.S. on my 2 WiFi-PC’s (N° 2 and 3). I just saw that the Windows Firewall is NOT blocked on my wired PC (N° 1).
What exactly are you trying to do with the Windows Firewall?! AIS already installs its own firewall. If you want to use Windows Firewall, then do not install the one from Avast!
Like I said before in this topic, I’m not an expert and I didn’t touch anything while installing AVAST Internet Security.
The AVAST Firewall was installed by it selves.
I just tried to switch the A. Firewall OFF, it didn’t work.
Your posts make it sound like you have Windows Firewall AND Avast firewall installed at the same time. If that’s true, you can’t have 2 software firewalls running at the same time. You can only have 1.
Uh oh… You are NOT supposed to mess with the disabled Windows Firewall. It is supposed to stay disabled. Why are you trying to enable it? You will NOT fix your networking problems by running two firewalls at the same time, the only thing you will achieve is creating even a bigger mess.
If you want to use the firewall provided by AIS, then you need to configure the firewall via the Avast GUI, not by going to Windows control panel and messing with the disabled (“blocked”) Windows Firewall. If the product is way over your head, stick with a simpler one (avast Free/avast PRO), or kindly read the documentation and get some basic grip of what you are doing and how’s it supposed to work. Or use the custom install option and deselect the firewall component. Instead of blindly clicking on Yes/Next.
