a Little Concern With Avast Internet Security...

Hi Everyone i Have Avast Internet Security when i first installed it i did a custom install and installed the following only
-File System Shield
-Web Shield
-P2P Shield
-IM Shield
-Network Shield
-Script Shield
-Firewall
Additional Protection
-Sandbox
-Auto-sandbox
-Safe-zone
-Site-blocking

And I Licensed It And i Restarted it worked fine But After Install i wanted the Webrep under additional Protection so i re downloaded the Avast Internet Security Installer and i made a system restore just in case and did a custom install then i only checked marked the following
-Web-rep
-English
i went ahead and installed this to and it went through all the shields/firewall in the installer even tho i didn’t check-mark them and then i had to restart after it finished so upon restart i had the web-rep and the firewall but no system shields so i went ahead and used the System restore point i made before doing the custom install and it restarted and restored my system but the strange thing i don’t get is i looked at avast it had all the shields back with the firewall but the web-rep was there and i updated it was up to date but still asked for a restart so i restarted and it looks fine and is running no problems I’m just concerned that i made a problem soon to happen could someone explain how i have the web-rep if i used a system restore when i didn’t have it installed and if i may have a future problem I’m sorta confused here

Well, what you did was an over-the-top install…effectively erasing your original one… you just used the wrong procedure for the right idea :wink:

What you should have done was go to Control Panel>>Add/Remove Progs.(or Programs&Features), click on the Avast! entry, choose “change”, then tick the WebRep component.

Doing that same thing now, ticking all the boxes that are blank (File Shiled, Web Shield, etc.) should get you back to where you need to be.

If not, come back and we will get you straightened.

Yeah i didn’t realize that at the time :stuck_out_tongue: but i don’t know if i didn’t explain correctly or if i read wrong but i DO have my shields back WITH the web-rep after i did the system restore point so since i “erased” the first install should i just leave it as it is or is it really that big of a deal?

You explained it correctly, I just don’t have enough coffee in me yet. ;D

If all is okay, you should be good to go.

If anything about gets mussed, there is a Repair option via control panel also.
