A New Virus via Facebook, I Need Advice

Hello guys,

Happy New Year!

I received a message from my sister on FB that had a video. I clicked, it took me to another FB page where there was a similar link which I DID NOT click. A few minutes later, my sister sends me a message on WhatsApp saying I should not click on any video coming from her on FB.

I didn’t want to assume I wasn’t infected, and so I ran an Avast scan and it was clean. (Avast has been very good at alerting me of threats lately). I also ran a scan with Malwarebytes and it was clean. Is there anything else I can do just to make sure?

Thanks!

Anthony

If you did not run the video file you should be good, anyway this one is some weeks old now so all major AV vendors should detect it

something you can do when reciving links, don click it just copy it, and paste in in here and check for blacklisting www.virustotal.com

you can also write it in there if you dont want to copy/paste … you can also check suspicious files at VT

Thanks. I saw the link on the thread you sent me to. But do I click on it or what? Just checking.

The link i posted above are safe, one is just another post in this forum … click and read

Been reading the blog post. None of this havoc happened on my system. Does this mean I’m safe. Can you recommend another way to check if there’s a need?

I noticed that you also posted in The Mac section, do you have a Mac?

If needed (only for PC) https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=194892.0

My post in MAC section was done erroneously. I have PC.

Ok will delete it

Thanks. And by the way, the link you sent me to a thread, I do have that Malwarebytes in my system and I did run that before I posted to this forum. Negative.
