i’ve scanned my PC in safemode and finnished it within 3hrs…
after the scanning, the Avast displayed the LIST of files that were unable to scan because of the following…
1.password protected.
2.theres an internal program error.
i’ve click the action button above, and there’s a list displayed.
scan, repair, move, chest, etc…
i’ve selected SCAN, and there was error.
i’ve selected REPAIR and there was still error
and so as CHEST, it can’t do because i were in safe mode…
so the option i chose, was to MOVE some files…
i didn’t move all those files…
when i restarted my PC… some of my files were gone, and realized that the AVAST moved it on its MOVED folder under DATA folder…
my question is, is there any chance of retrieving my moved files? most of them are Mp3…
i want to retrieve them, but the extension file was changed into .VIR
but i was about to play them in media player, but i want to revert its format in its original format(including my MS office documents)
A lot of programs protect their files with passwords (it’s normal for antivirus, antispywares, etc.). If you search the board you’ll find this is a normal behavior.
Ok, the normal behavior, if the files aren’t infected, you can just rename them… Oh, only Chest stores the original path of the files, if it is this what you want, move back and rename the files to their originals name and location.
Goto the avast virus safe and restore them from there.
where is this? take note that those files that i’m talking about were not in the virus chest, they’re just in the MOVED folder of avast, which i cant simply rename…
Might I suggest that your two posts on this subject be combined into one. Having half the info here and half the info there isn’t helping.
Based on the screenshots I saw in the other post, you have Windows Explorer configured to hide the extensions of known file types, which may be why you think you can’t rename them. In Windows Explorer, click on Tools|Folder Options… Then click on the View tab. In the Advanced box, uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types” then click “Apply to All Folders”. Answer Yes to the prompt that follows then click OK.
Now go into the Moved folder and check out the files there. The names should say things like “a subtic dagger.mp3.vir”. You should now be able to right-click and rename them, removing the “.vir”
: I have used Avast Home addition for a couple years and really appreciate all that it does at no cost. Great !
