A poor paranoid person

So i was using my computer most of today, from 7:30 am to 3:30pm and i noticed the memory usage was slightly higher than normal.

I also noticed, for some odd reason, Skype was using a bit of disk usage (3.mbs) and i decided to exit out of skype and run avast.

So, i run avast, and accidentally opened skype…

My computer slowed to a crawl for some reason and i’m still not sure why!

Audio completely died, no videos would load on youtube, and even unplugging and replugging my headphones didn’t fix anything.

So i shut down my computer…after 5x its normal shut down time, it finally shut down.

I started up computer, it started up a bit slow like after a reset, now everything is fine.

I’m seriously worried if my sound card or whatever is infected/my computer has something wrong with it. Even though scannow and avast deep scan haven’t revealed anything.

Am i being overly paranoid? Is it just a slight hiccup that occurs from time to time? Or do i have justification for my fears?

Sorry, i just feel rather jittery after all this.

There have been some win updates lately, could it be related?

You may run some online scanner for a second opinion if paranoid

TrendMicro housecall >> http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
F-Secure >> https://www.f-secure.com/en/web/labs_global/tools-beta
ESET >> https://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

What version of Win. are you running ???

I’m running windows 10.

As for the updates, i got the updates 4 days ago…and as far as i’m aware of there isn’t any new ones

The last preview release that works with Avast (or any other third party AV) is build 14936.
Anything beyond that isn’t working unless you’re using Defender only.

I am not using any insider previews. I have no idea how to even opt into that.

and apparently firefox isn’t letting me download these online scanners…why???

What message does it give?
maybe not compatible with firefox? see System Requirements and info

Well what would happen is that it would say, “Downloading Housecall” and stay like that for at least 10-40 minutes until i canceled the download…

I relaunched firefox and refreshed the download and got it working now though.

So after investing about two hours into scanning and checking, I think its safe to say my computer is fine…

I actually believe it was a triple failure for my internet, avast and skype disk usage, and skype trying to run a audio cue the second it started up.

I’m not to sure i want that to happen again though…hopefully it won’t.

Also off topic, should i invest in one stick of 8gb ram to prevent future issues?

Sorry to bump a old topic but i officially found out why the event occured.

It wasn’t a virus or anything. It was me being dumb and apparently to quote a friend of mine.

“That was just your overhead RAM getting filled up too quickly and your computer having a conniption because of it”.

Which explains a lot to be honest. Since that day, my computer has been working at its normal derptastic performance. Yay.

No problem in bumping an old topic, when you created and you are reporting why the problem happened and its resolution.
