A question about windows firewall and avast 8.

Hello avast forum and i hope everyone is well,
I have recently uninstalled comodo internet security 6 in favor of avast 8 as i consider avast to be a superior anti virus.Im using for my firewall now the in-built windows firewall alongside avast.
Ive noticed a far better and quieter computer now with this combination.
My system is clean and im aware that the windows firewall does not have outbound protection as such unless i use additional software.But im quite happy the way things are now.
My question is,if something non-legit attempted to call home would any of the avast shields.(network or web shield) alert me to such a connection attempt.?

I could install online armor again but i found this taxing on the system and im trying to run my computer as light as possible.Am i ok with the windows firewall and would like some input from windows firewall users here please.

I was considering using the windows firewall control.I havent used the windows firewall for long as i previously used comodo firewall for years.
