Omid Farhang,
I’ve had just the opposite experience.
Fixed a friends computer who install one of those face AV programs
Avast! didn’t balk and didn’t ditect it when doing a boot virus check.
It was SAS that found and removed it.
I run it every other week just as a double check.
try to install “WOT” on your browser to find more info about every site that you visit, it can be find here: http://www.mywot.com/
don’t be sorry everything would be ok
Thanks for answering my question
well, it’s good that you could find it useful, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it
SAS found and removed an assortment of malware on my daughter’s computer, as did MBAM. That was before her subscription to another AV expired. Now that she is using avast, SAS usually just finds a few cookies.
@t l s: Thanks for answering my question and I really appreciate it
SUPERAntiSpyware Free never finds anything on my systems.
I’ve pro version of it, but because of same what you said I don’t use it anymore…
As I said earlier, just because it doesn’t find anything on your system doesn’t mean it is a bad program. I too have the Pro version and it very rarely finds anything (I have the tracking cookies check disabled, a waste of time). Do I expect it to find anything, no, but I still use it, belt and braces, lest my trousers fall down.
The same could be said for avast, does it find anything on my system, no, do I expect it to, no, would I not use it, absolutely not. My avast only detects thing when I’m investigation topics in the viruses and worms forum ;D
@DavidR: yeah yeah! the best thing that you said is your example about avast! , it does not find anything else than those time that we test things in virus and worms topics… yeah, we should keep all of them
SUPERAntiSpyware Free never finds anything on my systems. You see this kind of attitude a fair bit on some forums, particularly when the binary-challenged are trying out programs in an effort to improve mediocre performance. Just because something doesn't find anything does not mean it is no good. The default (and desirable) situation is that there is actually nothing to find. Every time I run a routine scan I expect to find nothing. Guess what? I usually find nothing, or a minor reg modification, or a feral cookie, or similar. I believe that this is why programs like AdAware are so popular. It's good at finding cookies, MRU lists etc. Therefore it must be good.
It is a strange psychology that makes the average user think that there must be something untoward on the system at any given moment, and anything that can detect, say, a wild cookie, therefore, must be a good program, while one that might have serious removal abilities isn’t.
PS, YoKenny, not saying you have this psychology, BTW, although the post suggests that. I would think that you know better. ;D
In my recent history, my SAS found and quarantined some MovieLand/MoviePass/Popcorn registries. Before that, I had to manually delete the folder that contains Notifier.exe, kate.swf, and Soundtrack2.mp3 which were leftovers of the ML/MP/P junk. Had to remove the rest with Bellsouth/AT&T Scan and Clean, entry.dll and the infected restore point was sent to avast!'s virus chest.
The same is true for me as it is for David. I do not expect anything to be found but if it is found, I have the programs to protect and clean. These days the only alerts I get from avast are when researching which sometimes takes me to dodgy sites.
@Tarq57: Yes, you are right at all Thanks!
@Jtaylor83: good to see it worked for you, hope never get any malware again!! Thanks!
@CharleyO: yeah, what David said is true, tnx!
-= Just found an adware today using SAS…! I can’t remember the name well but its some sort of sounds like “virtual”…? Well, I’ve got to change my vote now…
-= Is there any way to change the vote…?
well, it seems I forgot to enable “allow users to change their vote” when I was creating this poll
well, it seems I forgot to enable "allow users to change their vote" when I was creating this poll
-= its okay…
-= Avast found 2 more virtumondes [right, I remember its not virtual… ;D] on a boot time scan last night…
I hate that trojan! it’s very bother! but also it’s easy to remove
I’ve dropped down on SuperAntispyware… drivers and services running in background… not necessary for an on-demand scanner.
They are there if you use the right click context menu scan (sort of like ashQuick) otherwise it would need to start the service, process, etc.
Yeah… that’s why I’ve dropped it. Lack of detection (I use MBAM and avast) and background running processes.
@Tech: Thanks for response
@DavidR: anyway it has something on start-up before log-in into windows…
@Tech, well, Tech, now I’ve mixed avast! (for Web/Network) and Avira (as a standard shield) and MBAM for backup on-demand scanner, so I was thinking if to keep SUPERAntiSpyware or not, finally I said to myself: “Heck! I’ve lagged down my windows with all thos programs, let superantispyware slow down it more” :-\
