I am tracking down another issue when I found this one item. I have 2 machines with Avast free (most current updated version) and both machines are Windows 7 64-bit. In the services area I can see both machines have the service call “avast! Antvirus” which is set to Automatic and started.
But on one machine I see another service that the other does not have. It is called “AvastVBox COM Service”, it is set to Manual and is started. So i went to the settings in Avast and there is a checked box under Settings > General. Both systems have a check in “Enable DeepScreen” but on the machine that has the extra service it has under that a box that is checked called “Use secure virtual machines”.
I was wondering why the one system has these extra items because from what I see in the C:\Windows\System32 folder are a bunch of logs that have the same name as the service.
Again, I just came across this because I am looking in to another issue, but I was just wondering. If someone can shed some light it would much appreciated. Thanks
Likely because one system doesn’t have hardware virtualization or it is disabled while on the other system it is supported and enabled.
This is the NG component in avast.
If you search for it on this webboard as well as on the avast website (http://blog.avast.com) you can find a lot of information.
Ok, thanks. I went poking around and in my BIOS of the said machine the Intel Virtualization is on while the other is not on. Spot on and thank you.
Do you have any idea if there is some sort of button to clear older logs? On my system there are 255 of these logs and they date back to last year so quite a bit. I am just wondering as some other software also create logs, but there is some button that will clear out older logs. I have been looking around the Avast Free program and I don’t really see one, but then again my old eyes might be missing it.
