A Question Regarding Steam

Hey guys. I use Steam to download and play PC games. When Steam is downloading something, Avast continually scans the incoming file(s). I think this is unnecessary, since I’ve never heard someone got a virus because of a Steam download. Is there a way to exclude the Steam application from Avast’s web shield so that when I download a game (or a game update) via Steam, no unnecessary scanning is done?

Thnx.

You are totally wrong.

1]
Just because you never heard someone has got malware (virus is just one type of malware), it doesn’t mean no-one ever had.

2]
Legitimate sites and files from a legitimate site can get infected.
That means scanning is really needed.

Hi G-Khan,

Many developers on steam often have an EULA that states they will not be responsible for any damages occuring. (This includes trasmission of viruses.) Unfortunately Steam has been getting more and more “rouge” developers putting up buggy, broken and unsecure programs. As such I wouldn’t recommend disabling scanning on Steam. Bad files can come from anywhere at any time.

Thans for the replies buy they don’t actually answer my question. Is there way to excluse the Steam application from Avast’s web shield? If so, how?

OMG, can you guys stop giving me advice and just ANSWER my question? Is there a way to exclude the Steam app from Avast web shield? I’m gonna lose my friggin’ mind!
