a red circle on avast a-ball icon....

I am trying to make the Avast home edition work properly here. I got it in Portuguese.
There is a red circle on avast a-ball icon in system tray. When I pass the mouse over it, appears:
“avast7!: 7 provedor(es) ao total, 0 em execução”. Something like " avast7!: 7 provider(s), 0 execution".
And if I click on it and try to start the providers by myself, I got: " O provedor especificado não foi inicializado. A operação não pode ser completada."
Something like:" The specified provider wasn’t initialized. This operation couldn’t be accomplished"

I already try to repair my avast. Also tried to uninstall/boot/ download the lattest Avast and install it again/boot. And still doesn’t work.

I got Avast 4.7 Home Edition and working with Windows XP.

What should I do??

thanks
pedro

Have you checked out this FAQ on this:
Red Circle on avast icon - AAVM subsytem detected and RPC error. http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-questions.html#idt_1539

However by far the most common cause of this is having another anti-virus installed or remnants of one.
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer?
Did you have in the past? Which one?
Do you use a firewall? Which one?

Also, take a look into Administrative Tools > Services
and see how the four avast services are set to start (automatically or manual).

These errors are generally related to another antivirus present or remains of other bad uninstalled antivirus.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
