With the potpourri of negative, bashing Avast 7 threads around the forum, I wanted to make a positive thread where people can add only good things about it. And honestly, after using the removal tool and reinstalling it I have had no problems! There are some things I really like:
1.) The cloud services are AWESOME, and a great defense against Zero-day malware without having to wait for definition signatures! If you wait a day or so after the install, they will start going, and this is the kind of protection that no other free and few paid AV’s can match!
2.) There were like FIVE pop-up update notice version numbers today! Actually, I got four, with the last one ending in 4, but if the number started at zero, there were indeed five. Older versions usually only did two or three.
3.) The cloud services may be making Avast release signature updates faster than ever before. The cloud version aims to work to do updates up to TWENTY TIMES A DAY! There’s no other security software that I know of that does that. The paid version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware might have a lot of updates a day, but I don’t think 20!
I, much like the OP, absoultely love the cloud service and ‘File Reputation’ checking!!! In today’s growing REAL fiber internet market (unlike the boasted Comcast Fiber to a node to a cooper medium) this makes Avast a leader in innovation… like this is a surprise 8) . Here is where UPLOAD is becoming important(in my opinion it always has been). If one can have files UPLOADED(for verification) as fast as they DOWNLOAD, the more secure updating becomes.
Also, I am really excited about the ‘Remote Assistance’; as I have two machines operated by ‘less than knowledgeable’ family. Now I can help them without having to load some 3rd party app (yes, most the reomte assistance apps out ARE not designed by the company using them; minus companies like Citrix but ‘GOTO…’ is not wholly owned by them either.) Now I can get a PC setup without having some remote tool running in the background just waiting to be exploited.
I enjoy some of the enhancements made to the engine as well ;D !!!
All in all, a great upgrade from version 6. Most companies spend more time on updating their GUI than anything else. Its evident this WAS NOT so with the Avast team!!! Thanks guys!!!
I’d posted this in one of the zillion threads about 7 and its problems, but this is a dandy place to repeat it.
I for one was delighted to see that there’s now finally a warning on the status (main) UI screen if the self-protection is turned off. Plus it can be turned back on from right there, without having to go into settings. Including this in the “Fix Now” button, and in the status-bar settings, would have been even better, but this was a long-overdue improvement.
Yes. The program is a beauty for us old timers using Avast! for so many years. Though I been in the Forum for two years now, I ran avast!4 Home in my Windows 95 and 98 SE. Who remember that UI that looked like a car radio ? ;D Eventhough my upgrade did not went well at the beginning, I have to say that the Avast! team solved most problems in What ? 3 days. That is also the beauty of this program. Support. To count that no matter the problem you got, you are going to get help. Keep it up avast!
:)Hello everyone, I also want to add me and to congratulate AVST team for a great product designed, I long ago abandoned utlizzavo avst 4.8 then to switch to Kaspersky and norton then, and you can imagine how we are fussy about safety, we we used kis or Nis, well I must say with pleasure that I’ve installed on 3 pc avast 7 without any problem and without any malfunction, many are criticizing the function CLOUD, but now all the security software to use, but as streaming avast no one yet, so I think there is reason to enjoy the new avast and if any problems will have surfaced since the developers are very fast in solving them, then a round of applause to AVAST7 and the whole team.
;D Hello I had already ‘chrome installed on the PC so no problem I’m using even now, Chrome is installed by avast’ cause the chrome part of SafeZone, because the browser that opens the SafeZone is just chrome.
