aaagaggghhhhhh!!!!

Hello everyone…once again i am back because someone in this world has nothing better to do than make viruses to make other people miserable!!! >:(

ahem…anyways ;D

I run a windows 98SE OS, P2, Celeron Processor.
Right now I have to use a Windows 95 computer…soooo old!!

I am having problems Booting up. At first when I turned on my computer and it booted up just fine. But it didn’t take long for the problems to start happening…i got the same ol’ "program preformed an illegal operation and has to shut down " kinda crap…So I restarted my computer and it started to act funny when it was booting up. Then it told me that it was doing a system restore…thats when it wouldn’t boot anymore after…I restarted again and this time it only made it to the “verifying DMI pool data” screen…then it said Boot failure…insert system disk and press enter. So I put in the Start-up disk in and it said the same thing over and over…I cant even boot intosafe mode or anything…it will not go past that screen. Is there any way i can go into DOS so i can re-format? IS there a site where I can download a MS DOS floppy…or is there ANY way I can access MS DOS? I have a feeling I am very Screwed this time…I tried everything with the Bios setup and first boot device.

Oh just so you know i am suspicious of BearShare and I think it might be the culprit here…or a bad Download form there :(…But I noticed yesterday when i was on BearShare, it tried to download something that ended with .exe…so i stopped it and blocked it…but it just kept coming back…It was something like… BS (Random numbers) Install.exe . I am very frustrated at this point…Can someone please help me and restore my sanity?? ;D

Thank you  :-*

 Hi :

 Those who play with P2P "Fire" usually get "burned";
back in Dec I recommended you get rid of your P2P &
get the safer & "cleaner" Shareaza from :
 www.shareaza.com . But I see you did not .
More importantly, Microsoft will issue NO MORE UPDATES,
so it's time to get a more "advanced" Operating System .

"End of support for Windows 98 and Windows Me

July 11, 2006 will bring a close to Extended Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me as part of the Microsoft Lifecycle Policy. Microsoft will retire public and technical support, including security updates, by this date.

Existing support documents and content, however, will continue to be available through the Microsoft Support Product Solution Center Web site. This Web site will continue to host a wealth of previous How-to, Troubleshooting, and Configuration content for anyone who may need self-service.

Microsoft is retiring support for these products because they are outdated and can expose customers to security risks. We recommend that customers who are still running Windows 98 or Windows Me upgrade to a newer, more secure Microsoft operating system, such as Windows XP, as soon as possible.

Customers who upgrade to Windows XP report improved security, richer functionality, and increased productivity. "

Okay that really did not help me as I ALREADY know there are no more updates…i HAVE TO use this old computer until next month sometime…So I really have no choice at the moment. And if you told me to switch I must have forgotten…I Know its my fault…But can someone please help me and tell me how I can get into MS DOS mode? pleeeeeeeeeease  :-*

Hi kute_kittyvii,

Bootup disks from here: http://www.bootdisk.com/

Then run the machine to scan with F-prot for Dos from here:
http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geuruMwb9EPSMASiJXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTB2b2gzdDdtBGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZAM-/SIG=11oui6tai/EXP=1153504012/**http%3A//www.claymania.com/f-prot.html

Then download the Unofficial Win 98SE service pack from here:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Unofficial_Windows_98_SE_Service_Pack/1083536650/1

The properly scan with AV, install a firewall, install anti spyware (ad-aware, spybot s&d, spywareblaster).
And you can use this machine considerably safe. Use an alternate browser for it, with in browser security.
Read about safe practices here in this forum.

Hello,
Well I was able to succesfully reformat…its so weird how this happend. I remember JUST before my computer started screwing up it tried to do a system restore…and jus today i realized that i was trying to make it boot form HDD1 instead of HHD0 (duh)…So i switched it over and voila…It booted up with no problems. So I knew that if i didnt reformat the virus would catch up sooner or later…besides i wanted to start off fresh. I put Avast as my AV instead of AVG and Spybot instead of AD Aware (I personally find Avast and Spybot work better)…and I put Shareaza on instead of BearShare…So im all set now…hopefully i dont screw up again before I get my new computer :D…Thanks all for your help.l

There is no conflict between AdAware and Spybot S&D so there really is no need to choose, use them both after all they are on-demand scans and not resident. There is another that is passive and blocks certain malware/spyware/diallers, etc., Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
