AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error....

I know theres like hundreds of posts on this and i have read maby of them and tryed everything sugjested in them. Nothing works for me… when i look at the services it says that avast is starting and stays that way.
Im running Windows Xp Home Edition Sp2 with all updates from microsoft
latest version of avast pro

that shows up under error in the log viewer

so what can i do to fix it? i really dont wanna switch to another antivirus, i love avast lol. This problem occured after i reformatted my harddrive.

RPC errors are often associated with having another av or remnants of one on your system.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

How long have you been using avast ?
What are you doing when this occurs ?

always have used avast and have never had another antivirus program installed… newly formated harddrive so thats not an issue. As for what im doing its starting my computer, and that red circle things on the icon in the system tray. When i try to open on access protection the error shows up.

Do you use a firewall? Which one?
Any other security programs that could interfere?
Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

like i said ive already tryed everything sugjested in the previous posts about this including the repair install thing. I use outpost but i disabled that and restarted and the problem persisted. as for the event viewer there is some stuff saying ashserv.exe failed or along the lines of that. I attached the log so you can look at it.

I don’t see anything that helps in this log.
Please, post the last 100-150 lines of this avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

How long are you using the Trial version? Seems it expired…
The first installation is for 60 days and next ones for only 6.
Are you using avast at home? Are you eligible for avast Home version? If so, just registered it and add the key.

I don’t see any other strange thing in your log…

OK, lets try this, Program Settings (right click the avast ‘a’ icon, if it lets you do this even), Troubleshooting and check the ‘Delay loading of avast services after other system services’ option.

If you can’t get there try, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashSimp2.exe, this is the skinless Simple User Interface, Settings, Settings, see image and see if you can get to the Troubleshooting that way.

did it and it still gives the error. The avast! antivirus service just wont start up… any other suggestions?
oh and i just forgot to put in my license key but that wasnt the problem.

What is the error message if you manually try to start the service?

it says “could not start the avast! Antivirus service on local computer
error 1067: the process terminated unexpectedly.”
ill uninstall and see if avast home does the same, its strange… avast pro worked fine before i reformatted.

Like David, it’s not easy for me to follow this…
I suspect on other security program installed, but it’s difficult to point if any of them is guilty. Hope Alwil team has more ideas…

I have the same programs installed as before i reformatted. So why it would have an error now i dont know.

outpost firewall, spybot search and destroy, and ccleaner. Thats basically the only things that invlove security.

Can you try to:

  1. install without TeaTimer (from Spybot) enabled?
  2. remove all entries of avast from Outpost and try to allow connection again?

i installed avast before installing any of that stuff but ill try it and see if it helps
