When I log in to my Roadrunner email account, I get bounced back and forth between the site and about:blank, until it finally times out. If I start IE in the mode without add ons, then I have no problem getting logged into the site. Techs with Roadrunner had me do a hundred different things and nothing worked. They finally gave up and suggested I use Firefox, which has no problems logging into the site. This computer (Windows 7) is only six months old and originally came with IE 8. I had no problems logging into the email account until I downloaded IE 9. It seems that is when I first started having this problem. I uninstalled IE 9 and went back to IE 8 thinking that would solve the problem, but it didn’t help. Under managing add ons I disabled all the add ons and I still had the problem. So whenever I want to use IE to go to my Roadrunner email account I have to start in the mode without add ons. I do not have this problem going to any other website. I have run my Avast scan and it can’t seem to fix it. Anyone have any idea what this is all about or when Avast software engineers are going to come up with something to remove about:blank problems?
and why do you think this have anything to do with avast ?
Good question…!
Further, I use about:blank as homepage, and no problems.
Don’t know anything about RR though.
Since this is some kind of malware, I was just wondering if Avast engineers are addressing the problem. I scanned with Avast and it found nothing, tried a hundred different things that were suggested by Roadrunner techs and several more things suggested by Microsoft technical support, and still failed to solve this problem. This all started happening when I opened an unusual looking email in Roadrunner, so whatever it did only affected the online Roadrunner email account. It is a real mystery why it has not affected Mozilla. I like IE and want the flexibility of using both browsers, but it is a pain to always be forced to start IE without my add ons. Avast has always been top notch in my experience, so I was just hoping you folks may have heard of this problem. Any ideas? Ever heard of this before?
