about "cannot update" problem

Recently I faced the same problem. Web connectivity was ok for Internet Explorer, Opera, Miranda & TheBat!, though there was no ways to update avast! antivirus both automatically and manually… Also I lost language panel functionality [!!and the ability to run any TCP diagnostics!!]. I checked Windows XP firewall & proxy settings thoroughly, but everything was fine there. I tried to repair and reinstalled avast! and Windows XP a couple of times, but with no result. That drived me mad finally. Being unable to update my virus database (which was already about 2weeks obsolete) I downloaded the “big” vpsupd.exe and ran it, so theh I was sure to be ‘up-to-date’.Then I did a complete system scan and I got a warning from avast! “Sign of “Win32:Feebs-J [Trj]” has been found in “C:\WINDOWS\system32\msof32.dll[Upack]” file”. After letting avast! to remove the virus and rebooting, everything came the way it should be.
I would like to mention that this happened at my work computer, when I set avast! not to autoupdate, I usually updaded it 1-2 times a week manually. Perhaps doind that I myself had left my computer unprotected for some while…
My story is self-explaining.
I would like to thank the avast! team for a great work. I use your program for about 2.5 years.

PS. after some investigations i found the source for js-feebs virus, that appeared to be a zipped ‘secure mail’ *.hta file arrived by mail.
