Activation issue using license file

I downloaded Avast Internet Security ver 17.7.2314 (build 17.7.3660.241) and installed it on my Windows 10 x64 Home laptop - no problems. When I went to activate it using my license file, it won’t activate.

Step 1) In the subscription section of settings, I click “Insert license file”, then browse to my file and select it.
Step 2) The subscription info comes up saying I have 166 days left. I click the “activate” button.
Step 3) An orange circle spins around forever, and nothing happens. I left it for 30 minutes thinking it might just be slow, but nothing happens.

When I reboot, the subscription info never saves, so it says I have a trial. I have installed/activated Avast on this laptop at least 5 times and never had this issue before. To try and resolve, I uninstalled AIS, ran the Avast uninstall utility in safe mode, cleaned up junk files, scanned the registry for any leftover Avast files, and reinstalled. The issue persists.

Any suggestions?

It was purchased from a third party , not Avast.
