when trying to run my avast sca it tells me my reg32.exe actskin4.ocx file is missing ,ive tried run to find it but cant.does anyone know were ican down load it and how ,thanks
Where were you looking for it, for me in the c:\windows\system32 folder for WinXP pro.
If it isn’t there, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If the avast! repair does not solve it:
You will have to register ACTSKIN4.OCX
Follow the instructions:
Select START → RUN…
Enter the following command:
If you have Windows NT or 2000:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
Press OK (or Enter).
A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear…
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
ived tried that run buisness and it wont find it .i tried to add and remove programmes and it wont let me is this a virus .ive just run it again and it brought up system files, then i added regsvr32.exe and it brought up more , ithen adde the actskin4.ocx and it jumped off saying this page is un available, check your browser settings .grrrr help
What is your OS?
Where were you looking to fin actskin4.ocx (as I already asked)?
Did you try the avast repair, as I asked?
Can you be more detailed, “tried to add and remove programmes and it wont let me” what errors, what happened when you tried add remove programs?
im using windows xp,and when i clicked on avast in the add or remove it changes colour but nothing happens its like its protected .
You haven’t got PestPatrol by any chance, have you?
no not that i know of ive think ive got some sort of virus but i was running avast at the time iyts saying cannot get usi getskin .watever that is ?
Something to do with avast! skins. Pest Patrol detects it. (A false positive obviously.) Maybe some other anti-Trojan/spyware prog. is also removing it?
You need to register ACTSKIN4.OCX following David’s instructions.
For some reason, ActiveSkin (the 3rd party library avast uses for skinning) does not seem to be working on your system. As a workaround, we may disable skinning in avast - that should solve the problem. To do that, open the file \data\avast4.ini, look up the [UserInterface] section, and add the following entry:
StartWithSkin=0
