thanks justin…i use the ad-aware se plus-have used ad-aware for years-do you know of a release date estimate for the final version ???
looks like its has a Ccleaner(sort of)built in :o
is there a bug on my monitor?? :
Guys, talking about detection and don’t intending to hurt any feelings :
Do you find Ad-aware (even the new beta) any advantage over a-squared and AVGas (ewido)?
I use SpyBot and ad-aware since the first beginning of their releases… but, except for one or two detections, nothing more.
All spyware that come to my computer (passing through avast and, before, AVG antivirus, McAfee and Norton) where never ‘detected’ by them but, on contrary, by a-squared and AVGas.
usually when i do a scan with Spybot i very rarely get any detections. With Ad-aware i usually get a couple of tracking cookies. Yesterday i used AVG for the first time and it found 13 tracking cookies that the other two didn’t detect.
It would be interesting if Justin would post his experience with it.
Like you , David, I’ll probably wait for a final release but I’m excited that there is new development. Hopefuly AdAware will surpass the others in a couple months.
Oh, I’m sorry, you meant on my Windows partition. Windows is protected by avast, Defender, SpywareBlaster, SpyBot, and Ad-Aware. Pretty common mix, and it has kept Windows clean for years. Whenever there’s an updated version of any of these, I install it immediately.
I also do not often find anything with Spybot S&D and AdAware SE. I chalk that up to my security settings and use of CCleaner and CleanCache prior to scans. The less they both find the safer I feel.
One issue beta 2 has that beta 1 didn’t is that Ad-Watch makes my CPU usage go to 100% and freeze my system. Another is that scanning is quick but some of the time it will freeze (about 20% of the time it freezes) another is that they aren’t releasing any definition updates for it, meaning you don’t really get to test removal because it doesn’t find much.
I like Spybot but I noticed Ad-Aware SE doesn’t detect much spyware which is why I removed it, I’m hoping that will change in the new version. To my knowledge, they are currently planning to have at least 3 betas and the next beta will be released in about 4 days. I do not know any information on the final release though.
As for the CCleaner like features, take a look at the screenshot below.
As far as detection goes, I wouldn’t, last I used it it didn’t detect any malware, I installed spybot and it detected a few infections. All adaware has ever detected on my PC are tracking cookies.
AdAware just doesn’t seem to be keeping pace with the latest anti-spyware like SuperAntiSpyware, SpywareTerminator or AVG anti-spyware (and that too seems to be goind downhill).
