Ad-aware problem.

Since i downloaded the most recent (8th Feb) adaware update, which was reluctant initially to download, my computer became more and more reluctant to link to my ADSl provider and froze altogether yesterday.

At first I didn’t put it down to the adaware and after several hours of trying other things disabled it and now my computer is restored, but I now have no adaware.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and because i’d like my adaware back has anyone any thoughts/solutions? Thanks in advance.

Well as an interim measure and to give a broader detection base you could install Spybot Search and Destroy and also Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

I have been a little tardy in this I missed the 8th update and whilst replying to you have downloaded it (dial-up) with no problems.

Did AdAware detect anything in the scan after you downloaded the update ?
If so check the quarantine area and see if you can’t restore it. However, it may be something totally unrelated to AdAware because uninstalling AdAware wouldn’t have restored any deletion and I can’t see how it would effect your adsl connection.

David many thanks - Evangelist for sure! ;D

I actually have both the ones you mention - Spywareblaster and Spybot, as well as avast - of course!

Not sure if adaware is the cause but perhaps will become clearer in next few days.

Hi Hawick,

What you could do for a second opinion is download spyaudit, and run that on your computer. You have a good indication of a clean system there. Get it from here:

polonus

Your welcome, you could run a registry cleaner to ensure any remnants of AdAware are completely removed, download the latest version and do a clean install and see if you can still use it.

Polonus, thanks for that link!

Just for kicks, I decided to download and use SpyAudit. I runs fairly quick and, though not surprised, I liked the results!

A quick Google search for Ad-aware produces the link as the first results …

… which is this one:

Repeat after me … “Google search is my friend!” ;D

Thanks CharleyO.

Guess what - my problem has just returned, and that is without the adaware, something else must be the root…! >:(

Any more ideas??

Time to start googling try doing a google search for either the symptoms or any errors or warnings.

There are a number of web sited dedicated to broadband so a google for them and see if they have either a forum or FAQs.

Just to say many thanks for all your help and responses, after four days of frustration and worry (I use the internet for work) my ISP has finally admitted the fault was at their end! >:(
Reloaded adaware.

Well frustrating yes, but hopefully along the way you have learned some things.

Now that you ISP has admitted it was their fault, you might want to check and see if they have a system status section in their on-line support (if they even have that) and see if the issue was reported. If so it would be a good port of cal if anything like this happens again.

Great … another problem solved!

Hawick, it is good to know you can again use Ad-Aware … dang ISPs!

Any time in the future you have a question about
Ad-Aware, it would be best to ask the Experts on the
forums at www.landzdown.com ; this forum is staffed by
ALL the Experts who used to advise on the now-defunct
  Lavasoft Ad-Aware Support forums .

Thanks spiritsongs, CharleyO and David, yes for sure lessons learnt and will follow up, and use your link too spiritsongs. ;D
