Adding note after message

Hello,
I am adding a note after the incoming message. It works fine, but I would like to change it slightly.
I would like to remove the blank lines that are inserted at the end of the message.

The Avast message ends with

Tested on: %TIMEDATE%
%INBOUND=Inbound%
%OUTBOUND=Outbound%

The Tested on: line is completed and then there are 2 extra lines after that even though I removed the blank lines after the %OUTBOUND=Outbound% line.
It looks to me like the -

%INBOUND=Inbound%
%OUTBOUND=Outbound%

produce 2 blank lines.
Is there any way to remove these blank lines?

The clean notes files are just text files, nothing magic, Blank lines are just text, clicking the Return key will produce them, so the Backspace key should remove them.

One difference though are the ones that are for the HTML message, a Blank line is represented as
(break) so there might be two or more
commands at the end of the text, just delete those you want.

In the text file, as I have indicated above, there are no lines after the
%INBOUND=Inbound%
%OUTBOUND=Outbound%

lines. Still produces 2 blank lines. That is why I asked if these lines show 2 blank lines.

The actual %INBOUND=Inbound% %OUTBOUND=Outbound% bits are just the variables which are part of the message but aren’t actually the end of the actual message, that is contained within the and tags, so I’m not sure where your line spaces are coming from in the HTML code or in Text they would still be above these variables as they aren’t displayed in that position.

That then may well be down to your email program as the clean not is inserted into the email it may have a space before and after the insertion.

I have just tested it but I use HTML formatted email (and OE6) and sent an email to another account. My clean notes HTML file doesn’t have any
after the message text and in if I use the reply to sender, I see 1 line space after the clean notes and it is only in these circumstances that I see the line space after clean note.

I use Outlook Express in text mode. Those 2 line are in both the aswClnTg.txt and aswInfTg.txt files.

I turned off the add notes in Avast and sent myself (different email address) and there are no extra lines. When I remove the lines after the those 2 variable lines, and enable the add notes I get an extra 2 lines after the Avast notes.

How are you seeing these extra lines as when an email is viewed you don’t see blank lines, only when you reply as at that point you can position the cursor below the message ?

Whilst this might well be important to you to remove the blank likes I don’t feel that the insertion of clean notes is very worth while.

Certainly doing it for inbound email is pointless as if it is infected all hell will break loose with a visual and audible alert so you will know. For outbound email it is more of a good advert for avast, but if the recipient is anything like me they won’t trust any clean note as it can be inserted by ‘anything.’ In fact there are a number of virus attacks that inserted an not that the email was scanned by a well known AV which shall remain nameless, this to lull recipients into a false sense of security.

If you have remove all possible blank lines in the message files, then it is something outside the scope of editing the file, something which isn’t in the configuration of the GUI either.

DavidR,
I see your logic. I can leave the notes out and if for some reason I want to make sure that Avast is really checking it I can look at the mail properties/details and there Avast insert a couple of lines.
Thanks

No problem.
