admn and SBS suite

When I installed the SBS server edition on my SBS 2003 server, it worked fine.

If I unistall it and use ADMN and a server deployment task, I lose internal web services. For example my sharepoint pages won’t display or server permormance reports.

What am I missing?

Hmm, this is definitely not a known problem, so resolving it would probably need a deeper analysis…
Unfortunately, from the information you’ve given it is really hard to find out what’s going on…

Could you please provide some more details about the problem?
Also, does it take place even without the NetServer edition installed? (i.e. with only the ADNM software installed)

Thanks
Vlk

I have SBS 2003. Pretty much straight out of the box. Recieved new in january.

I am not hosting a web site, so what I mean by internal web services is server generated web pages (admin status, etc.)

When I first downloaded Avast SBS suite, I first installed Server edition. I then installed the netserver edition and installed my client computers via ADMN. (which I really like, btw.) I then uninstalled the server edition and tried to install server edition via admn. When I did so that is when I lost the web services. I can uninstall the server edition and the services come back.

While typing this I had a thought that maybe I should uninstall everyting and start over.

I too have this problem, same situation. new SBS 2003 R2 server. ADMN server installed, prior to this we had just Avast Server client with demo license installed alone. first order of business after ADMN was configured is to deploy the netServer client to the SBS server. I did not uninstall the prior standalone server client first but let it upgrade/replace.

[details that were missing from earlier posts] after reboot I got failed service warnings and MS error reports, Exchange had failed, but recovered, however none of the web sites on the server were working. they displayed “service unavailable”. this includes SBS’s Sharepoint site “companyweb”, Exchange OMA, WSUS (for version 3.0) and the server management internal consoles. IIS was running but in “application pools” several of them had crashed with Xs next to them. restarting the pools or iisreset did not resolve.

in the application event logs were many errors:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: W3SVC-WP
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2214
Date: 4/16/2008
Time: 11:34:31 AM
User: N/A
Computer: %servername%
Description:

and many more in the sys logs relating to the same error.

after removing, IIS was back to normal.

ADMN is at the beginning of the demo right now and my client intends to purchase after we get a good count of how many clients are needed here. this is halting our progress, please help.
this is my 5th complete SBS / ADMN roll out and I have not encountered this before.

Jae

Right now I just installed the non-admn package on the server, just to have protection. I have not been able to play with in a while. Hopefully, soon I can try unloading and reload everything.
